Background
The Japanese Government has recently approved the implementation of the Productivity Enhancement Project under the RP-Japan Grant Assistance for Underprivileged Farmers (formerly KR2 Program).
The NEDA KR2 Productivity Enhancement Project will provide funding support to community agri-based activities that aim to enhance productivity and increase rural income of underprivileged farmers, augmenting national resources available for such activities in the process.
The activities to be supported under the Project will be catalytic in nature, and essentially are applications of best practices, pilot testing of new techniques/ processes/procedures, prototyping or applications of new products or techniques, as well as innovative value formation initiatives leading to enhanced productivity.
These activities will also be complementary and closely aligned or linked to national and local government economic and social programs for replication, thereby contributing to the achievement of the government’s envisioned development goals.
Objectives
General: Support the President’s Ten Point Agenda by providing employment opportunities to people at the grassroots level and promoting/supporting the development of small and medium enterprises and agricultural businesses.
Specific:
- 1. Support community-based activities that would result in enhanced productivity and increased employment opportunities at the grassroot level;
- 2. Increase/raise and supplement rural income and develop the entrepreneurial skills of rural folks; and
- 3.Develop and promote promising technologies and industries and facilitate the upscaling/replication of best practices.
